Plant medicine (Inga Edulis & Sharamasha)
This finely pulverized plant medicine appears as an light grey powder and has a fragrance that makes one think of vanilla. This is because of the use of Inga edulis in this mixture, which is better known as the ice-cream bean. Inga edulis is widely used in native South American folk medicine. Decoctions of the leaves, bark or root commonly are used as a treatments for diarrhea, arthritis and rheumatism. Sharamasha is a mysterious plant related to the Piri Piri plant (Justicia pectorallis), also known as mashi-hiri and considered an entheogen. Sharamasha can help boosting the senses and supports the search of mental and physical clarity.
Common use and effect
This Nukini rapé is relaxant for to the physical body, but has an uplifting effect to the spirit. It draws one’s awareness out of the clutter filled mind and back into the body, where one experiences a deep sense of ease, balance and connection to self. The physical body melts into a state of relaxation, while built-up muscle tensions and soreness are washed back into the earth. As an effect you are able to access ease of body and mind. This traditional plant medicine is particularly useful in times when the mind is active with repetitive thought patterns, or following a stressful day. It is also helpful when the physical body feels tight and tense.
Francisca Nuqini, shaman of the Nukini-people
During the weeks with the Nukini we met Francisca Nuquni. Fransisca is an elder of the tribe, but unsure of her precise age. She gathers and prepares sacred plants as long as she is able to remember. Her voice is soft and soothing when she speaks about her beloved rapé. The secret of rapé? She told us that the power is in the songs she sings to the plants. Every plant contains a unique spiritual energy which asks for respect and devotion when harvested. The best rapé is a blend of mapacho, ashes and lots of love. The exact blend is however a secret. This makes the blending of rapé is an art on it self, that is solely entrusted to the women of the village. Do you want to learn more about the Nukini-people? Check this article.
Support the Global Spirtual Awakening!
With your support we can help many families and indigenous tribes across the Amazon to get a sustainable and viable source of income. We currently work with more than 50 local families, and 10 different indigenous tribes. The growing threat of industrialization, westernization and land appropriation endangers the sustainability of tribal cultures and the lands they live on. Together we fight against deforestation and support the cultivation of the lands and ancient plant wisdom. The ethnobotanicals are carefully selected and imported in order to support the entire chain, from grower to end consumers. By supporting Native Snuff you become part of the global spiritual awakening that is necessary, and will eventually to heal the earth!
