Handmade Caobo (mahogany) Kuripe

The artisanal kuripes are handmade by our friend Maximiliano. He lives with his family in the Andean mountains of Ecuador. These kuripes are some of the simple, but elegant ones Maximiliano makes for us. We have been working with him for over 3 years and have visited his workshop several times. He is very passionate about his work and we love supporting his family business.

Mahogany has a straight-grained, reddish-brown appearance. It’s a tropical hardwood species of the genus Swietenia; indigenous to the Americas. The kuripes are polished with a natural wax finish which makes it stand the test of time and gives it a luxurious shine.

Kuripe or Tepi

Traditionally, it is administered through either the Kuripe or Tepi. The kuripe is a for self-administration. A tepi is used when rapé is being shared. The v-shaped applicator connects the nostril to the mouth. The Tepi is a long blow pipe that connects the nostril of the receiver with the mouth of the blower, who then blows the rapé into the nose of the receiver. Learn for about rapé here.

Common effects  & Use

Commonly effects are described as giving a sense of grounding and assurance by bringing the mind and the body at ease. Clearing the mind from tangling thoughts allows to set new intentions. More profound effects of rapé are experienced at higher dosage and more important, when one develops a higher sensitive awareness that attunes to the sensations rapé may generate. Getting accustomed to the sensation, becoming known with different ways of applying rapé, but most important, being in touch with your energetic body, is what allows you to move beyond the more superficial effects of rapé.

The Yawanawa talk about 3 different ways to administer the rapé: short and strong, to wake up, get present, long and strong: to clean the mind & spirit long, starting soft and strong in the end: for meditation, entering into trance, ceremonial use.

Traditionally it is believed that rapé can increase your focus, presence, and intuition; spiritually opening up your body and mind to higher communication and holistic thinking. It releases emotional, physical and even spiritual illnesses, easing confusion and negativity. Do you want to learn about rapé? Read our 10-STEP GUIDELINE for taking rapé!

Support the Global Spirtual Awakening!

With your support we can help many families and indigenous tribes across the Amazon to get a sustainable and viable source of income. We currently work with more than 50 local families and 10 different indigenous tribes. The growing threat of industrialization, westernization and land appropriation endangers the sustainability of tribal cultures and the lands they live on. Together we fight against deforestation, support the cultivation of the lands and the preservation of ancient plant wisdom.  These ethnobotanicals are carefully selected and imported with the aim to support the entire chain, from happy grower to end consumers. By supporting Native Snuff you become part of the global spiritual awakening, which is necessary and eventually will heal the earth!
